My younger brother, Shaun, passed away very suddenly at his home in the early hours of the morning on the 5th of January 2013 due to complications with Asthma. We had barely seen each other in the few years leading up to his death, but through some unexplained twist of fate, i was there with him when he passed. So was our Mother, though there was little either of us could do.
For the next six months i stayed on living in his apartment helping my mother sort through everything and trying to provide some kind of support. These two preludes were made during that time. Without any instruments or proper recording equipment i began cutting up pieces from the twelve songs i had been compiling towards a debut LP - some drums from this song, and organ from that song etc. They symbolise everything from the hope of new life and new beginnings to the trauma of separation and division of physical property.

The source material for these songs was mostly recorded at Un/Fairfields in Brisbane with additional recording undertaken by Cameron Smith at his Incremental Recording Studio, also in Brisbane 2012-13. The Bowed Cymbals on "Prelude II" were performed by Cameron Smith.
These Preludes were conceived and mixed at my Brother's apartment on Baker street in Emerald, Queensland. I would like to dedicate them to his memory. Shaun Leon Jack Thompson 1985-2013
